Make sure you read my previous blog before reading this one, okay dudes. Cooooool. :]
Okay, now where were we up to? That’s right. Christchurch.
One thing I hate is when you wake up in the morning freezing your ass off, so luckily, our hotel rooms were nice and warm when we woke up (haha). We had to skip breakfast, pack all of our stuff up, drive all the way back to the airport and swap cars. We finally got our Ford Territory, and got out of there! I was going to go shopping that day for some snow wear, but we had a fairly long drive ahead of us, so I let that one go. We had two destinations: Mount Cook or Queenstown. We all really wanted to go to Mount Cook, but you have to keep an eye on the weather if you want to go there (the conditions there can change very quickly). It was a fairly clear day, but we were going to play it by ear anyway. I ended up calling the Hermitage Hotel just to find out the weather outlook, and they said it would be fine. So we made the decision and headed to the highest mountain, Mount Cook. We arrived there quite late, as we took a few stops along the way at some cool scenic touresty places. Once we had arrived though, it was snowing quite heavily, which was a bit of a hazard. Taj was driving, but we made him swap with Jack, whose a pretty experienced driver in icy conditions. The black ice was pretty bad, so we had to put on snow chains and all. I think Emma was freaking out. She sure was glad to be indoors. But not for long. Once we settled in our rooms, we put on our waterproof snow gear and went outside to enjoy the… SNOW! Ah, we had a terrific time. We built a snowman and made snow angels and had a snowball fight. Taj hell stacked it on the road. He must have slipped on some black ice and gone down. It was hilarious (I’m mean)! It must have really hurt though. It got dark really quickly, so we went inside for some heat, and food! The restaurant is great there, and once again, I love the atmosphere. Everybody is dressed in oversized waterproof snow clothing and with their families and friends and just having a great time.
Sunday morning came and it was time to leave the glorious Mount Cook (though not without a nice hot buffet brekky). Emma didn’t enjoy the drive to Queenstown too much. She was very car sick. And I don’t blame her; the windy roads are bound to make anybody sick. She was happy to arrive in Queenstown. And so was I. It truly is a winter wonderland for the rich and famous. Massive modern houses covering the hill, worth millions upon millions of dollars just for the land alone. We took a while to settle in to the place, then decided to go grab a feed (we were going to go grocery shopping, but it was Sunday and we weren’t sure whether the supermarket would be open or not, and we couldn’t really be bothered finding out). So yep, we had a good night out, had some great pizza and a few drinks, and we toasted to New Zealand.
PT.3 coming soon.
